Diligently plowing the paths of change: Two decades after their founding, Nico and the Navigators firmly established themselves in Berlin and beyond. At the same time, the company remains loyal to ever-changing partners under changing coordinates: in order to unite different genres in equal dialogues, the ensemble with its idiosyncratic formats breaks the boundaries between opera, musical theater, performance, dance, drama, classical concert and installation.
In the anniversary year 2018, a world premiere, three distinctive pieces from the past few years and an exhibition intend to provide insights into the process of artistic creation, capturing perspectives of the past, of today and of tomorrow.
When our navigator ship sets out on its anniversary journey, we will make port at different occasions. There is of course the world premiere of ‘The Future of Yesterday’, in which four generations of navigators embark on a thematic and personal quest through two decades of ensemble history at the Sophiensaele. SILENT SONGS into the wild revolves around topics such as wandering and departure, about everlasting disaffection and loneliness in times of mass migration - current experiences mirrored in the songs of Schubert. In contrast to you, is asking questions about the individual and social significance of freedom today. For an exhilarating end of the year 2018, we will once again revolve around forms of refuge in faith, religion, dogmas or rituals in a New Year's Eve presentation with the Petite Messe solennelle by Gioachino Rossini.
