Corona and Beethoven were united in concert
The Kuss Quartet presented its project "Now" with dance at the Konzerthaus Dortmund. Dortmund. Corona will accompany us for a long time - also artistically. There will be books, plays, performances and much more. Also concerts. The first one was presented by the Kuss String Quartet with a dancer on Sunday evening in front of almost 200 visitors at the Konzerthaus Dortmund. Beethoven was often in isolation and lonely, the musicians too. Why not combine the two? During the lock- down, the musicians kept a video diary, photographed, filmed and wrote. They showed excerpts from it to Beethoven's Ninth String Quartet on the screen behind the stage. And the images of lonely people and empty streets, of pas-de-deux with a 1.50 meter distance bar, matched the music. At times, the audience also learned new things about the jubilarian Beethoven - as in the fourth movement, which began with a dance of 60 coffee beans on a table. Supposedly, the composer always brewed himself a breakfast coffee with exactly 60 beans in the morning. The staging in the first concert part of Beethoven's String Quartet op. 135 (played from memory!) was even more exciting (directed by Nicola Hümpel). On a bent bench (stage: Oliver Proske) and as a walking concert with the dancer, the Kuss Quartet presented this work. In the second movement, the bench became a seesaw, and Corona accessories such as gloves, mouth guards and spacer bars were playfully integrated into the quintet's staging. Actually, the ensemble wanted to present its interactive program "Force & Freedom" that evening at the Konzerthaus Dortmund, but that will be made up for. This evening was called "Now", and now such Corona art is also interesting.
