Film and theater in books

Pina Bausch's dance revolution has sired many children, even if the offspring have developed their own profiles and movement languages. Sasha Waltz is just one example. Another is Nicola Hümpel, who can now celebrate her 15th anniversary with her company Nico and the Navigators, no small feat for a free company that has always had to fight for financial survival. The publishing house Theater der Zeit has published the anniversary publication with the beautiful title "An der Erde hängt der Mensch und an ihm der Himmel" - a quote from the play: "Kain, Wenn & Aber". A soft-flowing bound publication in a wide landscape format that allows for a very nice layout of the numerous illustrations from the performances. A picture chronicle of 15 years of artistic development, which began with student work at the Bauhaus Dessau. And in the meantime has landed at workshop stages of opera houses in Halle, Berlin and Bregenz. Improvisation, collective creation, drawing from the fund of individual experience, and yet in the end the search for the precision of form - here the working methods of Pina Bausch and Nico and the Navigators definitely meet. Dance dramaturge Marie Henrion writes in an article: Whether using cryptic words, disturbed gazes, contorted bodies, or partnering animated stage sets, Nico and the Navigators always design moving still lives as play spaces for their very own explorations of human behavior. In movement as in stillness, they tell of life and the never-ending challenge of finding one's way in it.
