Three months and five places distance

I did it. For the first time in Corona times, I attended a classical concert at the weekend With mouth guard and distance - and still with great pleasure. Normally, for me as a classical music fan, now in June/July would be the highlight of the concert season. In Hamm, the KlassikSommer was actually running right now. 13 concerts were supposed to start at the festival. But Corona ruined all that and all performances were postponed to next year. This also applied to the two big Beethoven concerts in the titan's anniversary year: the ninth symphony and the opera Fidelio, in which I wanted to sing in the two project choirs. In return, I experienced a special concert for the Beethoven Year on Sunday in the Konzerthaus in Dortmund. The surroundings were different than usual and yet almost the much-invoked new normality: in the foyer, there was a one-way rule. The visitors went with their masks to their seats in the concert hall and were only allowed to take them off again there. There were always only two seats next to each other and then five chairs were not occupied before the next couple was allowed to take their seats. Thus, next to and in front of me sat a family with children and grandmother spread over several rows. The protagonists on stage also kept their distance: the Kuss Quartet played two Beethoven string quartets, using the entire stage space. The sounds were visually staged by a Japanese dancer and on a large screen, on which video sequences of a performance ensemble were shown, which could not perform on stage because of Corona. As unusual as the circumstances and the realization of the concert were, as great was the applause, because the 400 instead of the normally up to 1500 spectators in Dortmund literally thirsted for culture. And I felt the same way after three months of abstinence. Live music at a distance is quite different from CD or Youtube all the time.
